You probably didn't know this about me, but I don't like eating avocado. Actually most people don't know this about me.

Why would they?

I don't have a hatred for it. The existence of avocado doesn't irritate my spirit. I'm not under any delusion that avocado has never done anything to me.

Furthermore, I'm happy for other people who enjoy avocado. Just because I don't like avocado doesn't mean other people have to dislike avocado.

It just isn't my thing.

So, unless I was specifically asked about, or offered, avocado, why would you ever hear me talking about it?

You get what I'm saying?

Okay like, with the TV show House. Bored me.

I know, a crime. I just couldn't get into it. I'm disinterested. I was a little disappointed actually because I'd heard so many great things about it but, eh, didn't pan out.

Again, you wouldn't know this about me unless you specifically asked. And even if you did ask, I'd just say something like, "yeah, I couldn't get into it."

I wouldn't say you shouldn't be into it, you know? Like, if you told me you thought it was a great production, I wouldn't argue with you about how terrible of a production I think it is.

For what? Art is art. All art isn't for me.

So again, it's not my thing. And most people don't even know this about me. You had no idea I didn't like House until I just said it.

There's a reason for that.

Because when we simply find something boring or uninteresting, we tend to just... move on.

Pay attention to the emotional literacy showing up in that statement.

What does it look like for someone to be bored or disinterested? They move on, yes?

How do you behave when you're disinterested? When you're bored by something?

You move on, yeah?

I think this is true for most people in most situations.

Even big, popular situations.

Like, Usher's halftime show, for example.

I didn't watch it. Have no idea what happened. No hate to Usher, I just wasn't interested.

Has Taylor Swift ever done a halftime show? I wouldn't even know.

Again, I'm not really interested in her art in general. I don't seek it out to consume or comment on either way - because that's what "I'm bored with that" looks like.

And again, you're learning a lot about me that you had no idea about.

No one on the internet had any idea about these things because the expression of disinterest tends to be that we simply... act disinterested.

We move on.

So Kendrick Lamar puts on a halftime show performance that's deeply political, full of symbolism, and very clearly by and for black people.

And people who got it, got it. This is something for us to celebrate and appreciate.

And look, I'm sure a lot of people who didn't get it were genuinely disinterested! And that's okay. I don't even know who they are. You know why?

They aren't talking much about it either way.

But then there's a select group of people...

People who have made it their life's purpose on a Monday in Black History Month on KDot's internet, to scream from the rooftops all the reasons why this production should be deemed trashy, boring, and not worthy of any artistic recognition whatsoever by the general public.

And it's not like they're just speaking for themselves. They're arguing against others, trying to change others' views as well.

Almost as if they're not disinterested... or bored... or even disappointed...

Almost as if they're... angry.

I want to be clear: this is what racism looks like.

This is what it looks like to be anti-black.

If they were really bored and disinterested - I dare think they would... act like it.

And if what they're feeling is disappointed because they were looking forward to enjoying the show - much like how I felt with House - I imagine their post would begin & end with "Aw man, I didn't really love it" or whatever...

While allowing others to celebrate art that resonates so deeply with them and hurts nobody except Drake.

I dare think they wouldn't try to argue against the people who enjoyed the art as if they're offended to see black art being appreciated and celebrated.

But this select group I'm highlighting here is throwing a whole tantrum about their supposed disappointment, boredom, and disinterest in this show.

And I see people who want to take their words at face value, and who are acting genuinely confused about how this could be considered racism, so I decided to spell it out here.

So it'll at least be spelled out somewhere, for those who are still catching up.

Anyway, Happy Black History Month My Babes <3

Tori

P.S. I won't be taking any questions, thank you.
